Greenmarket Tour and Cooking Class

Event Description: The second in a series of three classes that begin with a tour of the Greenpoint Greenmarket at McCarren Park and finish at Brooklyn Kitchen Labs. The Greenmarket tour will include meeting Greenmarket staff and farmers, learning about their seasonal favorites, and gathering some of the season’s bounty to take back to the kitchen to cook up a three course seasonal feast.

Greenmarket offers an opportunity to purchase the freshest and tastiest food and to learn more about where food comes from. The tour will take full advantage of this opportunity by connecting people to the farmers and other producers to hear their stories. Participants will walk away with a new appreciation of local food and the people who produce it.

The tour will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and meet on the corner of Union Avenue and North 12th Street on the south side of McCarren Park in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. After the tour, the group will take a short walk to Brooklyn Kitchen Labs where Susanna Tully, from The Uncommon Kitchen (www.theuncommonkitchen.com), will teach a hands-on cooking class featuring the seasonal vegetables, fruits, proteins, and herbs that were purchased from Greenmarket producers.

The class’ hard work will pay off when participants are able to enjoy the finished three course meal they helped prepare coupled with New York State wine pairings.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the SFNYC Neighborhood Farms and Harvest Time in Schools programs and "Snail" Bucks, SFNYC funded coupons that children participating in Greenmarket educational tours can use to buy fresh produce from Greenmarket farmers.
