I am interested in getting a food dehydrator to make my own dried fruit and dehydrated ingredients for lightwight hiking and camping trips. Just wondering if anyone has tried doing this and if we can start a conversation about best methods?

Sure here's the basic recipes that I follow

I also have an Excalibur and I dehydrate everything in it. It makes for amazing soups, great breads, and wonderful healthy snacks for my kids. My favorites to much on are the apple rings and pear slices. My husband loves the dried apricots and homemade venison jerky. My oldest daughter loves all of the above and the yogurt that I make with it. I have used it for everything from drying herbs to green beans and every veggie that comes from my garden. There is nothing like making homemade mulberry bread over a year after you spent the time picking mulberries with your family, and it tastes just like when you  made it from fresh ingredients. Happy searching--mine was worth every penny I spent on it, and then some! :)
