HOMEGROWN

Celebrate the culture of agriculture & share skills (Growing! Cooking! Eating!)

I've received the  Johnny's, High Mowing Organic and Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Catalogs and just beginning to dive into planning my urban garden (aka "the back forty"). I'll have a CSA share, too, so will want to supplement what I expect to receive in that. Some definites:

Herbs - Dill, Basil, Thyme, Chives...

Flowers: Chamomile, Echinacea / Coneflower, Bee Balm, Bergamot, Lavender (plus bulbs already planted)

Tomatoes

Delicata squash

Kale

Cucumbers

Watermelon

Arugula

Lettuce

Any recommendations?

I'm also window shopping via catalogs right now.

I'm planning tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, zuchinni, potatoes. Maybs include watermelon, pumpkins, and some sort of berry.

Go online to Johnnies Seeds or my local favorite, Sow True in Asheville NC.  You can request a catalog or just order from the online catalog, which is what I do.  Be careful though, as I always get too excited and order too much!  There are others of course that sell heirloom and or organic seed but be careful you don't get mixed up with the any of the seemingly innocuous companies owned by the evil empire, Monsanto!
