Unusual Peach

Has anyone heard of a "pumpkin peach"? My son visited a friend in Houston this summer & he had what he called a "pumpkin peach" tree. Jimmy (my son) said the fruit was round (not like a donut peach) with several ridges (pumpkin shaped), and tasted like a peach. He brought a pit home. The pit is about 1/4 the size of a "regular peach pit & is round instead of almond shape.

I have worn google out trying to find some info about this unusual peach. Nothing! If anyone has info, would really appreciate it.
