Urban Farming in Detroit- Becoming Reality???

News reports and interviews with Mayor Bing indicate he dreams of demolishing 40 sq miles of abandoned homes ripe with drugs and crime and replace them with farms and parks... I'd love nothing more... Here's an article on the developing plan:

That would be awesome, although I heard that one of the companies that is interested in getting farming going in Detroit has plans to sell the crops to cities on the east coast rather than to provide for the people of Detroit. I'll try to find the link to the article I read that mentioned this...

I HOPE they will NOT allow that at all... I saw a short on it on TV before I saw his article that mentioned they'd like to get local people to farm it and sell the produce at local markets. We have so many hungry people around here these days, it would be smart to set aside some of it towards food pantries, too.
