RACAonline - Rural America Contemporary Art - Making Nowhere into S...
Rural America Contemporary Art (RACA) is for and about artists living in rural areas across the United States.
RACA works from the slogan Making Nowhere Into Somewhere.
This is wry commentary on what traditionally has been the perception of rural America among other artistic communities and culture centers—that artists working in rural communities are less progressive and more regional than artists working in urban areas.
RACAonline is the only magazine of literature, art, and arts criticism that distinctly focuses on rural American contemporary arts and artists. We are a raw new voice in the growing re-population of empty rural places by artists and creatives, and we are the official publication ofRural America Contemporary Art. Our staff of four resides in or near Mankato, Minnesota.
The vast and complex landscape that is “Rural America” serves as inspiration for many contemporary artists living and working in rural spaces. RACAonline represents, explores, and connects this place and life with other working rural artists and the world. It also questions—and subverts—the many clichés non-rural culture has about contemporary rural American life.
To engage with us in this mission, submit work and ideas to submissions@racart.org. We accept 1.) Written work: poetry, short stories, essays, artist profiles, and works of arts criticism; 2.) Visual art: photography and other visual works for editorial use and our online gallery; and 3.) Guest curators for our online gallery. For more details on how to do this, see our submissions guidelines.
RACAonline believes that contemporary American art needs the rural artist. Please join us as readers, as supporters, and as creators in our artistic, vibrant, relevant, and viable contemporary rural America.
