David at The Door Blog has posted a comprehensive guide for those considering keeping a hive (or two). Read about it here.

we plan to start a few hives this spring, here in Malibu, coastal California. Im especially interested in planting flowers that bees will gravitate towords. Any suggestions?

Also, where to get my bees? From reading the door garden bog, it sounds like I should get on it.

I've come in contact with a biology professor that is breeding queens and we're going to host some of his hives. He takes care of them and we get the honey and pollination!

There was a beekeeping discussion that started last year and I thought I would link it to this group. How's it going, beekeepers? Is your hive buzzing?

We just got our first colony yesterday. They are buzzing around right now getting their bearings. Totally excited! The keeper said that this hive was producing about 50lbs of honey every couple of months.

In short, urban beekeeping is back, at least for NYC residents!

Hello all!  This will be our first year of keeping bees and we are very excited.  I have 2 bee "packages" on the way from Georgia and just ordered the bare essentials for clothing, equipment and enough hives and supers for beginning two colonies.  We are hoping for a good year of learning and experience.  It will be nice to have some of our own honey for our mead producing projects.
