I listened to this interview with herbalist Paul Bergner last night and it left me in complete awe and filled with joy at the beauty and power of plants and nature! It's long and might not appeal to those with zero tolerance for the 'woo woo', but for anyone in love with plants, ecology and healing, it's a must listen!

I just planted my container herb garden this weekend, and I am super excited to see them flourish and grow! We have garlic chives, spicy oregano, sage, flat leaf parsley, lemon thyme, pineapple mint, nasturtiums, rosemary, sweet Italian basil, lime basil (can't wait to make some basil mojitos!), and a first-time addition of lemon verbena. i cannot stop running outside and smelling them!

need a little help! I planted Oregano and cilantro and when watering the seeds scattered throughout the box. I tried creating two raised rows of soil for the seeds and then water in the areas between and on the "hills" but my seeds scattered. What is the best way to make them stay in their designated spots?!

I don't know if this will help now, but I like to start seeds in egg cartons, a couple of seeds per cup, and then transplant the starters into a box after they come up. If it's physically possible, try watering from the bottom so the seeds don't get washed away.

Is Cuban Oregano edible? I have a pot of it - think I picked it up at a garage sell. It has a very very strong scent. Thick and juicy leaves compared to normal Oregano.

@David, Cuban oregano is not actually oregano! But yes, it is edible and from what I've heard, often used in mexican type dishes.

Harvested the basil today and thought Id share my pesto recipe!

Homemade Pesto
6 ounces basil leaves (about 3 cups)
1/3 cup pine nuts
7 cloves fresh garlic
8 ounces fresh Parmesan cheese
3/4 cup olive oil
4 TBSP softened butter
1 tsp salt

1. Put basil, pine nuts and garlic into bowl of food processor. Add salt and cheese and pulse until a thick paste starts to form.

2. Trickle in olive oil and continue to pulse. Add butter and process to not quite smooth.

3. Measure out and freeze or use as a sauce for pasta or a topping for garlic bread. 1/3 cup of pesto is enough for about 3/4 of a pound of pasta.

Help my cilantro is flowering is this a bad thing.  I have never done herbs before and don't want them to go to waste.
