HOMEGROWN is reading Cooked, Michael Pollan’s latest book, this summer. We’re deciding how much to read on a week-by-week basis, and we’ll start a new discussion each Tuesday to weigh in with our comments and thoughts and rants and cheers.
This week's reading: page 372 through the end of the book in the hardback edition; discussion begins Tuesday, August 13th. In the meantime, don't be shy! Add your thoughts to the week 5 discussion below. Want to join the club? Welcome! Post a comment below and introduce yourself.
Sparkling conversation, stimulating reading, HOMEGROWN togetherness: What’s not to love? (And congrats to Jon and David, winners of HOMEGROWN’s giveaway copies!) Now, let’s get cooking.

I started off the final reading section craving a glass of wine. By the time I got to Coleridge's words on p. 404 I'd cranked up the Grateful Dead. This section evoked memories for me--MP's…Continue

Hi, all,This week's reading started off a little slowly for me, but right around the midsection—aka the belly—of the bit on beneficial microbes and the gut, I started making notes and asterisks all…Continue

Hey Everyone,
Check your library or purchase your own copy and get started reading soon so we can start discussing come July! I've read the first 150 pages and it's a great read so far, with lots to talk about.

Uh, oh. I think you've throw down the gauntlet, David. Fellow women of HOMEGROWN, don't let me be our sole emissary. Join the club and help represent!

Yay, welcome, Tara!
Welcome, Julie! I've read the first quarter of the book and so far it definitely is inspiring me, so I hope it does for you too!
Tara and Julie: Now we're talking! Thanks for joining! Glad you're here.
Welcome Julie & Tara,
I have read the intro and A good portion of Part 1 FIRE. Looks like there was a very good reason for Michael Pollen to write it (better family connections). Often times I have read books and articles with either a sense of spirituality or to some degree sexual (love of) Michael seams to be coming from a sense of family unity. A sense of being connected to a bigger picture instead of individualism. I have read several things by him and this one seams more personal and with that I am looking forward to it.
Hey all! I am new to Homegrown, but I saw the link to this book club - and I happened to buy the book when it came out...so I am excited to join the discussion group. Look forward to sharing in the experience with everyone!
