"This guy" brought an alligator into a bar... oh wait... My grandparents were starving share croppers in Arkansas in the 30s and 40s... I'm trying to tap the spirituality that they left me... and the love of the land. Unfortunately the starving part drove them out to CA to make hand grenades in the factories of war. They made "farmer/rancher" friends and eventually had upwards of 100 head of cattle they would use for meat. My grandfather did most of the work after retiring from Montgomery Ward. He was a janitor. Most folks say the cattle were more of a hobby. They had a large lot and always had a huge garden that was major part of their subsistence. I don't think they made a cent off them aside from selling milk to their friends. I have 2 sons, 18 and 31, the "true" loves of my life. I have 3 ex-wives... I played to win... apparently that wasn't working too well for me. Anyway. I'm glad to be a part of this community. I'm thankful you're here.

Found a mostly dead spider plant, brought it back to life, now it has more chutes than I can count. Lots of folks will be getting starter spider plants for Christmas.
Hello, Chuck, and a belated welcome to HOMEGROWN! My name is Jennifer, and I’m the flock tender here: site updater and tweaker, feeder and waterer of content. I’m so glad you found us, and I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to say hello. As you might know, HOMEGROWN.org is a little sibling of Farm Aid, and we’re still playing catch-up after the big concert last month in North Carolina.
Most importantly, I'm thrilled you’re here! Thanks so much for sharing a bit about your life and your background. Sounds like your family is full of hard workers. I hope you’ll turn up plenty of projects and ideas here to spur you on, and I hope you’ll be game for sharing some of your own, too, in our member blog, The Stew—maybe more on how you’ve splintered off those baby spider plants! And how I can get one! Elsewhere on HOMEGROWN, you can always find the latest additions to the site at the top of the homepage, and if you ever need help finding your way around, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment on my profile page or shoot me a message. I hope you feel right at home!
Thanks Jennifer. I'm on the Farm Aid mailing list and I buy their shirts as a way to support the great things they do. That would have been a blast to go see the concert in NC. I live in CA but I have family in NC. It's a great area. I appreciate the things you do. Take care.
