Indirect cooking

I am relatively new to the field of indirect cooking, or smoking meat. Most of my stick time was cooking on a grill over an open flame. One of my last jobs in the Army was with the Operations Group…Continue

Starting out Ag student, beginning gardener
A bit about me:
I retired after 23 yrs as a mechanic in the Army, went to college and picked up a cert in Food & Bev management, but my passion is in farming. I changed majors to Ag Science, and hope to become a sustainable organic farmer, and start a restuarant using fresh foods.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Hickory and Mesquite smoked chicken. I am getting pretty good at smoking, thanks to some older gentlemen I go to church with who have lived on ranches most of their lives.
Currently reading:
The bible

My latest DIY project:
small home garden, starting from seed.

Finally got it going

Finally got stuff out in the postage stamp, some peppers and tomatoes and basil I started inside. Direct seeding beans, they are starting to sprout. Have more inside under the lights, after a bit, they should be ready to come out. The container plants are loving it outside. Chocolate Mint rebounded, and the tomatoes and peppers are loving it! Got some awesome roses blooming on the roses we planted a couple yrs ago, too!

Got my little raised bed postage stamp in

OK! Finally had a good day to put my raised bed in. It's not much, I dug out the area for it, lots of gravelly dirt, but everything seems to grow great in that area. I direct planted…

First veggies of the year!

Today I got to have a plate of Blue Lake bush beans that I started growing indoors in at the beginning of Feb. I moved the pots that I had em in outside, because the leaves are starting to look not so good, but the beans were very good! I have the dirt for my outside raised garden now, so i'm going to start my postage stamp garden during the rest of this week. I have a lot of very healthy pepper seedlings, and some jellybean tomatoes that look pretty good, but kind of leggy, so I hope they…

Getting the growing room set up

Well, starting putting together a little more permanent growing area. It has 2 4 ft. fluorescent shop lights, a table, rack, and a small stand. I have to put together the bookshelf for my magazines and gardening books. Had a few problems, my tomato seedlings are not looking too great, the beans are doing awesome! I planted some sweet basil, some from seeds from one of my plants from last yr, some from a packet. So far, the seeds from home are sprouting, but the other ones aren't popping up…
