Fill in the blank:
Aspiring urban-dwelling locavore
A bit about me:
I’d like to think I’ve always been a healthy eater and a champion of the environment. That is until a series of events made me second guess my urban lifestyle. Films like Food, Inc. and books like Eating Animals have challenged me to think about my footprint, especially around food consumption.

I started exploring what it really means to eat as sustainably as possible, especially in a place like New York City. Questions began circling:

“Is it possible to cook like this in my tiny New York kitchen?”
“Will eating organically and shopping at farmers’ markets be too expensive?”
"Why do we have beautiful parks in NYC, yet mostly neglect our water surrounding them?"

So I decided to start a "Local Me" journey, and have been documenting it on a blog (http://localme.tumblr.com/)as I go.

I've been so thrilled to find places like homegrown.org to uncover new ideas, make new connections, and get better and better at being homegrown!
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Last night! Local dish: sweet potato quesadillas with seasonal greens.
Currently reading:

Apple Cinnamon Butter

7:45am is one of my favorite times of the day. There is a quiet in my apartment that is palpable. The sun glows over the buildings on Broadway, and I can hear the whispered hum of my refrigerator. In only an hour, I'll be on the subway headed for the tangled wilderness of midtown Manhattan, but for now I have the world to myself.

A couple weeks ago, I received a tweet from Chez Us proclaiming that I'd won their cookbook giveaway. A couple days ago, Plenty arrived in the mail, and I'm enthralled.

Cranberry Apple Chutney

This is a winner. Tart, sweet, savory, chewy, and sour. All at the same time. Will wonders never cease?
