Dirt Under My Fingernails City Slicker
A bit about me:
I used to do landscape installation for almost 10 years before the economy handed me a twist in life that turned out to be an awesome blessing. Now in retail i found it hard to be indoors all the time so i started gardening in 2009. I have found the scratch to my itch! There is nothing better than the sun on my back and sweat on my brow! Moreso, to provide healthy food for my 4 year old daughter and wife of 5 years is very gratifying. My wife has an exotic parrot rescue(Avian Haven Exotic Parrot Rescue Inc.) so the parrots in rehabilitation also benfit from organically grown fruits and vegetables. So cheers to happy growing!
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Im a horrible cook! But atleast i try to be healthy. So i would have to say... Sheppard's Pie with organically grown corn, peas, carrots and beans. mmmmm....
Currently reading:
TheHoly Bible, Grow Your Own Vegetables, and Heirloom Gardener mag.
Currently listening to:
John Hagee
My latest DIY project:
Building a compost bin and garden.

Benefits of Seaweed?

Seaweed? Really? The first thought of it brings to mind fishy odors and the slow salty death of my garden. But after alot of research turns out if you live near the shore you have access to one of the most beneficial ingredients mother nature can add to your garden.

The Irish and Scotish have been using the "ocean's grass" as their lifesource for hundreds of years. As a matter of fact, the Highlanders used only seaweed to fill their beds. Their land is devoid of any…

Pressure treated vs Cedar

I am ready to build my raised bed for this spring but i am in serious debate over the use of p.t. wood. I've learned that over time p.t. can leach chemicals into the soil and is highly recommeneded not to use it at all. Cedar is the gardener's choice but is so expensive. Can i line my p.t. bed with plastic to put a barrier between the soil? If so, what kind of plastic? What is the best choice of wood that lasts long and is not expensive? Ahh!!! i dont know what to do! HELP!
