What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
Earth Mama
A bit about me:
I am a mom to 3 children, 8 hens, 2 goats, 2 cats, and a dog who loves music and reading and is trying to cure a black thumb by making a "farm in my backyard" as my children like to call it.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Well those cabbage rolls I made Sunday were pretty good. Tonight's dinner wasn't that great...although it was a homegrown chicken...
Currently reading:
A bunch of stuff
Currently listening to:
The hum of my computer and my cat purring.
My latest DIY project:
Rat-proof compost bin. Is there such a thing?

Why I Free Range My Chickens

One of my favorite part of keeping hens is watching them through out the day as they do their chicken thing.  They are so fun to watch as they scratch around, chase bugs and wander through the yard.

I love seeing their social dynamics, who hangs with who, which chicken is always left behind, and I have to admit my heart stops a little every time I see them…

Hi, Kathryn. Welcome to HOMEGROWN! My name is Jennifer, and I'm the flock tender here (site updater and tweaker, feeder and waterer of content). I’m so glad you found us—and from Denmark! That’s awesome! I’m glad, too, that you found the Perma-Curious group. Seems like that's going to be a fantastic endeavor. And, finally, I’m super curious about your cabbage rolls. Would you be willing to share your recipe? If so, you can do so by posting to our member blog, The Stew, or by joining the Recipe Sharing group. Elsewhere on HOMEGROWN, you can always find the latest additions to the site at the top of the homepage, and if you’ve ever got questions, please don't hesitate to leave a comment on my profile page or shoot me a message. I hope you feel right at home!

Ah! Thanks for letting me know about the sign-up issue! I'll look into it. And actually, Portland sounds just as cool as Denmark! If you do tweak the cabbage roll recipe and end up with something you're game for sharing, will you give me a yell? Cabbage is one of those foods that, in theory, I have a complicated relationship with, in that I always think I don't like it. But every time I eat it, I love it. Unless we're talking plain boiled cabbage, alone, on a plate. Then it's still my nemesis.

I lived in a Polish neighborhood for a couple of years in Chicago and was able to get sausage and cabbage rolls at the bakery around the corner from my apartment. So delicious.
