I Know Better: Lessons From Vacation

I recently returned from an RV trip to Montana, which left me away from my homestead for almost a month. It's always a challenge managing this time away when it comes to my crops, and this year was no exception with the addition of my 9 chickens.  I enlisted my neighbor, who has been learning along with me about the chickens. Some Seasonal Recipes! Garlic scapes, beets and turnips!

White Bean and Garlic Scapes Dip

  • 1/3 cup sliced garlic scapes (3 to 4)
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice, more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt, more to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

My Homesteading Adventure: Toughening Up

Its been a couple of weeks since I posted last about the chickens.  Then again, I think this post may end up being a little less about chickens then it is about the lesson I learned but you can never really tell until I'm done spilling my guts. I'm all over like that.

Twilight Gardening and Quiet Reflection

Often you’ll notice that my posts of late begin with “I remember when”. Such as when I say that I remember when I had “good” jeans without permanent mud stains on the knees. I remember when weather bothered me, I’d complain about rain or too much heat. But tonight, those things are far behind me, they don’t bother me any longer.
