In order to make soy milk, you have to soak the beans*, strain the beans, remove the hulls, add water, blend the beans, filter the mix and heat the liquid with a bit of salt and honey. Removing the hulls was quite the task but worth every second once we tried it as a Green Tea with Ginger Soy Latté! So tasty and…

You don't need a farm or even a yard of any size to have a garden.
Do you have a balcony or patio that gets several hours of sunlight each day? Do you have a windowsill that gets several hours of sunlight each day? Container gardening can be very simple to start herbs or flowers and even a few vegetable varieties.…

Wonder why we need a sustainability hub here? I’m sure we’re just an example of what happens all over the country, but meet some of our people. Because this was my idea, I didn’t have time to ask for permissions, so I have fictionalized the names, only.
Know anyone with food allergies? Debbie has a goat dairy in town about 20 miles away, and she has an awesome recipe for a special ice cream that many people with food allergies CAN eat. But she doesn’t have the money…

Have you ever tried homemade liqueur or liquor?
Lemoncello is easy enough to make and I might post a recipe tomorrow. Today we're making Brandy!
I found this 8 simple steps to making Brandy at wikihow.com and it's "oh so simple." The only problem I have with the recipe is there is no specific amount of yeast. I have NO idea how much yeast to use (but I found…

Our Big Chance! Help us buy this foreclosed riding stable so that we can create a shared use facility called North Country Sustainability Center, Inc. Please visit the following website and contribute to our NCSC Jigsaw Campaign. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 2010. We have been leasing a facility to start our programming, but the real needs are for a community commercial, micro-creamery, and gardens for education and community. Our users are a diverse lot, but we looked at…

Who doesn't like Salsa? There are so many variations of Salsa, mild to hot, mango to jalapeno and even green tomato salsa. Creating a Salsa Garden is easy!
My first suggestion, Peat Pellets! I don't care where you get them from but they make seed-starting "oh so easy." Before you just go crazy and start planting all of the seeds it's important to…
