So, we have been away from the city for exactly 15 months! We finally snapped and got out of the rat race. In one year we learned to bake the perfect loaf of bread. Made pickles for the first time. Piled and chopped 20 chord of wood. I learned to crochet and starting to knit. Made a garden plot that is so well protected by barbed wire that it frightens small children. Taught the dog how to pull Trout and Salmon from the River, then taught myself how to clean said fish. Made syrup and jam. Ate something wild everyday. Grew enough herbs to last for more than a year. And then there's the Tomatoes....We planted over 100 tomato plants, they all took!
I have frozen tomatoes, canned tomatoes, fresh canned homemade ketchup, canned tomato sauce, dried tomatoes....next will be salsaand homemade V8.
Corn is as high as an elephants eye....and we are freezing it on the cob. Beans were through about end of July. i let the lettuce bolt to collect seeds. Buttercup squash is well on its way to being ready. And, I'm trying to find a way to store my couple bushels of potatoes.
Not bad for two fags from the city!
