HOMEGROWN

Celebrate the culture of agriculture & share skills (Growing! Cooking! Eating!)

We here at Homegrown are all about the gardens, farmers markets, and CSA shares, yet I thought I'd highlight yet another outlet for fresh, homemade, homegrown produce, dairy products, meat, canned goods, and other things one might find at a farmers market--the country market. Country markets are yet another avenue for local food producers to sell their wares, yet in a "brick and mortar" location, with more available hours than a farmers market.

I'm quite a regular at the local country market, Mountain Lakes Market in Plainfield, Pennsylvania, and I thought I'd take you through a photo tour showing some of the goodies you can find there.

Fresh, local milk...

....and homemade local cheeses, butter, and yogurt.....

.....local honey and maple syrup......

......locally made canned goods.......

.......seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables (the produce was slim today, yet over the summer there was a bounty of lovely fruits and veggies).....

.....yummy homemade baked goods......

........homemade dog treats!......

......and no country market would be complete without all the handmade country crafts......

Also located within the market is Blue Mountain Blooms, where you can find plants, seedlings, fresh cut flowers, bouquets, and seeds......

Perhaps there is a similar market near you? And for city dwellers, these sorts of places are well worth the stop when doing a countryside day trip.
