It turned out that the removal of a tree stump is a job which even a woman can do without facing any significant difficulties. With the right tools by hand, you can quickly get rid of the pesky stumps in the garden.

Tools you'll need:

  • Gloves
  • Mattock
  • Pruning saw
  • Axe
  • Shovel
  • Protective glasses
  • Garden rake
  • Crow bar

The most important thing you need to do when removing tree stumps is cutting off its roots. It is commonly accepted that as high is the crown of the tree, as deep in the ground are spread its roots. I’ll explain how to find the roots that you have to cut and the tools which will make the job a lot easier.

  1. Start with digging around the tree log with a mattock. Your goal is to loosen the soil
  2. When the soil is loose enough, you are ready to dig it away with the shovel so that you can see the roots below the ground
  3. Now you are seeing the upper roots of the tree. With the pruning saw, cut off the smaller roots
  4. With the axe, cut off the thicker roots
  5. When the top layer of roots has been cut out, you can reach to the smaller roots beneath the tree trunk. With the axe and the saw cut off the lowe roots
  6. Tilt the stump back and forth until you can easily pull it off the ground
  7. Fil the pit with soil and you're done!
