Hi, Dyan! Welcome to HOMEGROWN! My name is Jennifer, and I'm the flock tender here of the digital, not sheep or goat (unfortunately!), variety—which means I tweak and update the site and feed and water the content. Bittersweet Heritage Farm looks beautiful! I’m in Maine regularly visiting family; I’ll plan to stop by sometime soon. In the meantime, I’m guessing you have all kinds of skills and knowledge we’ll want to tap to share with the HOMEGROWN community. But even before we start peppering you with questions, you should share photos of your new private garden in the Hey, I Grew That! photo gallery. And we’d love it if you wanted to share stories and photos of your animals and dairy products and life on the farm in The Stew, our member blog.

I hope you’ve already started finding your way around HOMEGROWN. You can always find the latest additions to the site at the very top of the homepage, and if you’ve got questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment on my profile page or email me at wehunt@farmaid.org. I’m so glad you found us and hope you feel right at home.

Dyan: I was already excited to come check out Bittersweet, but after reading your blog post ... well, you may have to kick me off your property to get rid of me. Your post is so lovely, I just made it today's Daily Bite, at the very top of the homepage. Thanks so much for sharing it with the HOMEGROWN flock. I can't wait to hear more.

Change of seasons

Summer wind down time. 46 degrees on the old thermo this am. Amazing! One day it's summer, the next, it definitely feels like fall. Picking blackberries, harvesting grapes, making pickles from the bumper crop of Heirloom Lemon Cukes, grabbing up the daily load of sugar sweet Sungold tiny tomatoes, daily cheese batching for the aging fridge , hay making and loading into the barn for winter...it's harvest time!

Something happens when the seasons change. There's an energy in the air, a…

My journey as a cheese maker.

I am a cheesemaker. I didn't plan on being a cheese maker...it just happened. I fell in love with goats, then I fell in love with goats milk, then I started playing around with heating milk to make it into cheese and now I'm a cheese maker.

I come from a long line of farmers. My father's side of the family were all farmer's, ranchers. It was a western thing. Oklahoma, Texas. But then, the family moved east for some health reasons and settled in the New England area. They turned to…
